My wish is to inspire others to appreciate the true wonder of the natural world. A journey I have been on since childhood. Inspired by nature and the interdependence of all things.
I can always remember the days of my childhood the mystery of old and dead looking bones of animals. Sound strange? It has made me the artist that I am today. The mystery and the discovery of new and old of the natural world. As a young boy six years old my parent took me to an old pioneer grave to take some photos. I stumbled upon a decayed carcass by an old tree that fascinated me. My imagination went wild with fascination of what this animal was. I saw the bones there, some flesh and insects moving about. But it was that discovery of something I could never imagine at six years old. Later I realized it had been a Large hawk that was decaying. That underlying structure that bones are at the mercy of muscular contraction can create movement, flight. It made me curious. So I began to create things from found objects in and around my home making things like birds and fish among other things created from imagination. But, this sparked a creativity that was real to me. I gained a lot of attention from the things that I created and that fueled my desire to create more. So, as you see today I continue to create what appears realistic to the eye, simply carved from wood. I enjoy inspiring people from my carvings. I am passionate about carving the play of wood, clay and bronze, the sound and the smell. I believe that I was meant to be an artist. I can create that expressive passion through my work. My skills have developed over a lifetime of education and experience. An experience of life.
In my work I strive to express this inspiration of the natural world. I draw my inspiration from observing nature, looking for the once in a lifetime moments. Putting this into a sculptural form is like a dance, a dance with nature.
Below are some of the examples of my wood carvings that I have expressed from inspiration of the natural world. I exercise the challenge from my customers in creating a unique and special sculptures. All my pieces are one of kind. My work has received national recognition and is my responsibility to maintain this excellence. I like the fact that customers can come to me and tell me what they want. I accept personal requests. In fact I prefer this. My customers are always pleased with my work.
